Church History
Philadelphia House of Prayer
Began as a vision on International Fasting and Prayer Mountain in Seoul, Korea. During a two week fast the name Philadelphia House of Prayer began to
be repeated in the spirit of Pastor Ken Delany. The pastors of Yoido Full Gospel Assemblies of God Church emphasize the importance of constant
prayer. Yoido is now a church of eight hundred thousand members, pastors from all over the world come to learn about the success of Yoido Full Gospel Church
The single most asked question is how did you grow to eight hundred thousand? The pastors of Yoido all answer the same - forget methods and pray.
It is almost like being at a wrestling match to hear Western pastors ask questions on methods and to hear the Korean pastors respond "prayer". Pastor
David Youngee Cho began in post war Korea in 1958. Purchasing a surplus US Army M.A.S.H. tent Pastor Cho opened his church and slept on the floor in
front of the altar because he did not have any money for an apartment. Many of his parishioners in the early days of his ministry lived in wooden shipping
crates they converted into one room houses. Pastor Cho lead his people through Jesus Christ from abject poverty into a middle class world to where even his
poorest parishioners can afford a small apartment.
Led by God to start a church in the Frankford area of Philadelphia Pastor Delany met with the local Ministerium where the President of the Ministerium
told Pastor Delany that in the last two years eight ministries closed their doors in Frankford. Since 1993 another nine ministries have closed their doors in
Frankford. The Christian ministry in inner city Philadelphia is strictly a financial matter. If the local congregation can not support its church there are no
finances from the outside affluent suburban churches, the doors are closed and the poor who desperately need the presence of Christ are abandon.
While the situation in Philadelphia is no where near as bad as post war Korea, the solution to Philadelphia's plight is the same solution used by Korea and
that solution is prayer. The Christian ministries in Frankford focus on helping, feeding and housing the poor, while the that need is real, the MAIN focus must be
shifted to minister to the Lord of Glory.
ELEVATION TO BISHOP IN 2008
In 2007 Bishop Daniel Rehmat declared that Pastor Delany was to be elevated to the rank of Bishop. Bishop Daniel took Pastor Delany aside and laid hands on
Pastor Delany passing his anointing onto Pastor Delany as the head of Church of God Pakistan and instructed Pastor Delany to pass that anointing to his son
Pastor Jonathan at the proper time. Several months later Pastor Delany was consecrated as Bishop. In July of 2008 Bishop Delany consecrated Pastor Jonathan Rehmat
to the rank of Bishop. Three months later in a ceremony held in Sialkot City with all the Bishops of Church of God Pakistan plus local and federal level elected officials attending
including Pastor Andrew Columbia and American Assemblies of God Pastor witnessing Bishop Delany laid hands on Bishop Jonathan consecrating him as Head Bishop residing
Prelate of Church of God Pakistan. At this time Bishop Delany passed on to Bishop Jonathan the anointing of his father.
PRAYER IS THE ONLY ANSWER
We must minister to the Lord and intercede to break through the hard shell surrounding Philadelphia. This level of intercession must be learned from God.
Must come from spending time in His presence. No clever method is going to bring the people of Philadelphia to church. This is place that men and
women of God do not just jump in in a big hurry to fast and pray but spend time in the presence of God in prayer seeking His permission to fast and
His power to pray.
This effort must be so led of God, so sacred, so holy, that the name of Jesus Christ will bring goose bumps to the flesh.
Isaiah 58:12 "And those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of
the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell."
Isaiah 61:4 "Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, They will raise up the former devastations, and they will repair the ruined cities, . . . "
With few exceptions the ministers that remain in the inner City have full time jobs to support their families while they work the ministry.
The "City Life Church"
After spending time to build up men and women to pray and seek God - it became apparent that the church needed to be a separate entity.
We sought the Lord in prayer for the name of the new church. As we waited the Lord added two Pastors to our staff one from Pakistan and one from Puerto Rico.
After several conformations we name the church "City Life Church"
